Although cosmetic surgery is very popular, it can also pose serious risks to patients. Sometimes, patients don't know all the risks. This can cause great stress. The procedure itself is invasive, and there are inherent risks that are inherent to any type of surgery. However, some of these risks are more severe than others.
Vicarious experience
Vicarious Trauma can be caused by someone experiencing traumatic events through the eyes of a friend. The experience can lead to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and can be treated with professional help. You can talk to your family and friends about your concerns. It may be difficult for people to share their feelings, but they should not take a loved one's reactions personally. They should maintain their daily routines, and contact family and friends.
Self-rated attractiveness
A recent study looked at the relationships between self-rated psychological well-being and physical attractiveness among adolescents. Participants were asked questions about their own physical attractiveness as well as self-reported levels self-harming and suicidal ideation. The results showed that male adolescents considered themselves more attractive then their female counterparts. However, girls were more likely to experience internalized distress if their self-rated attractiveness was negative. These associations did not reach statistical significance in girls. They were related to self harm behavior and suicidal thoughts.
Religiousness
Researchers found that religious beliefs play a role in whether people decide to have cosmetic surgery. In particular, those who are more religious were less likely be to undergo cosmetic surgery than those of other faiths. But, further research is required to determine the relationship between cosmetic surgery and religiousness.
Income from the Household
A study revealed a link between household income and the likelihood of undergoing cosmetic surgery. This study shows that those with higher incomes are less likely to have cosmetic surgery than those with lower incomes. To evaluate SES, researchers used the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics measure of gross family income. It is a widely accepted method of assessing SES and has been shown to reflect health disparities among different socioeconomic groups.
Liquid silicone facial injections
While liquid silicone injections are a common cosmetic procedure, there are still risks. Some patients might experience temporary swelling or bruising. Others may develop serious complications such inflammatory reactions. Also, liquid silicone injectables may move into other parts, causing irreparable damage. In some cases, treatment may cause a heart attack.
Infections
Infections after cosmetic surgery are a serious risk for patients. Although they are uncommon, infections can still occur even if antibacterial agents have been used. Different microorganisms may cause these infections. Most often, they are caused mostly by Staphylococci/Streptococci. There have been cases of infections caused by non-tuberculous microbacteria (NTMs). These infections can be hard to detect by standard gram staining and can resist many of the most common antibacterial drugs.
